We have had a lot of enquiries in relation to the coronavirus in the past few days. The important thing for us to say is that it is safe to gather at events and it is safe to compete as long as you’re healthy and haven’t been in contact with an infected person. It is still recommended that you do not compete or participate as a volunteer if you are sick.
We have been in contact with the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), and follow the facts, advice and information given by them in regard to the coronavirus. Read more at NIPHs webpage.
How is this handled by Holmenkollen Skifestival?
After counseling with the chief medical in the Norwegian Ski Federation, Ola Rønsen, we agree that as an organizer we must follow the actual conditions in regard to risk of infection and the information that the NIPH have given. People arriving from areas categorized as high risk (China, South-Korea, Iran and North-Italy), are asked to stay home if they have either been sick or been in contacted with an infected person in the past 14 days. Healthy people arriving from these countries will be welcomed, but are asked to monitor their own health while here, and report to the local health authorities should they get sick.
Is it safe to participate and can the event be cancelled?
As of today ,29.02.20, there is no reason to change plans in regards to the arranging of Holmenkollen Skifestival. This is justified on the basis of a risk evaluation and the recommendations that Norwegian health authorities (NIPH and the Norwegian Directorate of Health) as far have given to the population. It is safe to gather at events and it is safe to compete as long as you’re healthy and have not been in close contact with an infected person. It is still recommended that you be thorough with not competing or participating as a volunteer if you are sick. This is always our recommendation and not unique for this situation.
Should the risk in regards to infection and the severity of the coronavirus change drastically in the Norwegian population we will follow the advice given by the authorities. These can be found updated at any time on NIPHs webpage.
