During this year's congress of the International Biathlon Union IBU in Belgrade,
Holmenkollen Skifestival received "The OC Award for Excellence in Sustainability",
which recognizes the festival's outstanding work in sustainability and environmental awareness.
The award was given to Holmenkollen Skifestival for its work for new sustainable solutions
in both event logistics and audience experiences. During the acceptance speech
, the organizer highlighted the good sustainability collaboration with facility owner Oslo
municipality.
The award was accepted by the mayor of Oslo, Anne Lindboe and the general manager of Holmenkollen
Skifestival , Stefan Marx, presented by Nathalie Santer, former biathlete and
Olympian, currently board member of IBU.
Focus on the environment and sustainability
For several years, Holmenkollen Skifestival has worked actively to reduce its
environmental footprint. This year's measures included collapsible lubrication barrels, so that
the transportation of the lubrication barrels required 80% less emissions, as well as the transition to renewable energy for heating the hospitality tent.
An inspiration for the future
"Holmenkollen has shown how major sporting events can be leaders in
environmental work and will continue its sustainability efforts," says Stefan Marx, CEO of
Holmenkollen Skifestival. "We must commend the City of Oslo, which owns the Holmenkollen
national facility and is committed to further reducing the footprint of the facility.
We would also like to thank our partner Renta for delivering many of the solutions IBU
highlighted during the award."
The City of Oslo
"The City of Oslo has worked for a number of years to increase sustainability in connection with
events. The award to Holmenkollen skifestival is very gratifying in this respect, and we
congratulate them on the award." Quote from Anne Lindboe, Mayor of Oslo.
